Threadless’s Tag, You’re It!
Tag, You’re It! by stevenrhodes is my favorite Threadless print this week. Most of the designs in this series are great, but to me there’s something special about this one in particular. The kids are perfectly retro with their bellbottoms and pigtails, keeping the mood light with their innocently cheerful expressions. Meanwhile, the reaper seems to be grinning, too, but in a much more maniacal way. Rather than tagging in a normal, playful way, his skeletal hand is outstretched and grasping. Even the highlights of his robe look scary, a harsh yellow against the deep plum fabric. I’m also impressed by the way the structure of the piece emphasizes the blade of the scythe. It cuts through the striped border, pointing directly at the word “it” with its point like a threat. Yikes!
