Pampling’s Made of Stars
Made of Stars by Gamma-Ray gets a lot done with one color. The skull image is immediately apparent, but the stars get equal billing (helped along by the comet and angled oval in the background, which just scream space scene). There’s an impressive amount of depth here, created just with shape and halftone. The skull’s cheekbones pop out at the viewer, while his eye sockets seem as dark as the furthest reaches of the universe. And I really enjoy the motion and angles of the stars, sharp in the center and pulled out of shape at the edges. It has the effect of making it look both like the skull is exploding and that the viewer is traveling through space at high speed, approaching the skull at an alarming pace. Very skillful, and it makes a big impact!
