Threadless has teamed up with Hot Topic to showcase the cutest art out there in the new Kawaii design competition. Here’s what they’re looking for…
Have you ever seen something so cute that you let out an involuntary squeal of excitement? That’s the kind of unbridled joy kawaii brings out in people. Originating in Japan, kawaii’s culture of cuteness has become a worldwide phenomenon.
Partnering with the brilliant folks at Hot Topic, we present to you your next challenge: Make an original kawaii design that’s achingly ADORABLE. Whether human or an anthropomorphic creature, traditional kawaii characters break the cuteness scale with their giant beady eyes, shy demeanor, and subtle facial expressions. You can incorporate similar elements, or go wild with your own unique interpretation of “cute.” Also, consider serving us a sugar rush of bright pastel colors to strike a cheerful tone.
Enter before February 25th, 2022 for your chance to win. First place earns a $500 Hot Topic gift card and a $250 Threadless gift card. Second place gets a $150 Hot Topic gift card. Third place also receives a $150 Hot Topic gift card. Designs in this challenge cannot be published for sale without approval, and if Hot Topic decides to use your art on officially-licensed products, you will be contacted with a merchandise agreement separate from the challenge.
