Iron and Wine are a band. A band that Loves Threadless. And they’ve got a song, a song that needs a shirt design. Their song Boy with a Coin is the theme for this competition. If your shirt wins, your prize pack will include some Iron & Wine artwork, the complete Iron & Wine cd catalog and a Sub Pop Records cd prize pack (in addition to the typical prize for winning).

A new contest is up at Threadless: Mae Loves Threadless. The theme is Singularity, and the prize pack is pretty sweet (Xbox 360, Guitar Hero II, an autographed cymbal and more!).

(I admit that I had never heard of Mae until now. So I was amused to learn that the band’s website is WhatIsMae.com. Indeed.)
Threadless‘s new shirt picks for this week are top-notch as usual- and it’s an unusually hefty number of new shirts, to boot! Seven awesome, brand new, never before offered shirts and two perfectly reasonable reprints. My favorites of the new crop are Surprise (it makes excellent use of the shirt color and creates a really neat shape on the tee) and Sea-Saw II (a really fun concept executed impeccably).
And for all the shirt designers out there, just a reminder: The Gmail Loves Threadless and PaRappa the Rapper Loves Threadless competitions are currently accepting entries. They both have a deadline of August 16th, 2007.
This Monday at Threadless is even more hectic than usual: In addition to a great crop of new tees (my favorites, Mother Knows Best and Play, are pictured above) there are also two brand new Loves Threadless competitions!
In the PaRappa the Rapper Loves Threadless competition, designers are encouraged to create shirts with the theme “I Gotta Believe!” In addition to the typical prizes for being printed, the winner will receive a PSP, games and PaRappa merchandise.
The Gmail Loves Threadless competition is going to be insane, I can already tell. The theme is “Connect,” which is a pretty easy idea to brainstorm around. And the prizes are nuts! The winner gets an iPhone, a $400 JetBlue gift certificate, a bluetooth headset, and tons of Google merchandise.
Since the Threadless Eagle vs. Shark competition deadline passed a few days ago, here’s a look at my favorite three entries:
This shirt is fantastic in just about every way. The awkwardness is easy to understand and the style (reminiscent of old circus posters) is impeccable.
Curses uses a great style (one that hasn’t been printed very often at Threadless). The story is easy to understand at a glance, and it has a lot of visual power.
Looking for Love is more of a typical Threadless shirt, employing cute animals to service the theme. But the detailing, from textures on the animals to a neat star pattern in the background, set this submission apart from the pack.
Any of those three (and a handful of other nice designs) would be a great addition to the catalog and a worthy prize winner.
From June 17th, 2007 to July 17th, Threadless is accepting entries to the Cornelius Loves Threadless competition. The theme is Sensuality, so make yourself some popcorn and pull up a chair- we’re about to see a whole lotta amateurish submissions.
The prize package includes a Theremin, which is definitely worth working for.
