Threadless’s Protect Reproductive Rights design challenge

With a recent court decision weighing heavily on the minds of many, Threadless‘s new Protect Reproductive Rights design challenge arrives just in time. Here’s what they’re looking for…

We’re handing over a megaphone to artists to share their designs and perspectives in support of reproductive rights, to raise awareness, and to activate their communities around this important and fundamental human right.

100% of the net proceeds Threadless receives from all designs submitted to this challenge will be split evenly and donated to the National Network of Abortion Funds and the Center for Reproductive Rights. Beyond that, you can also choose how much—if any—of your own earnings to donate to either of these organizations via Threadless Causes (this is completely optional; view step-by-step instructions here).

We have few words to express our feelings on the US Supreme Court’s ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade, so instead we’re asking YOU to express yourself with your art while helping to support reproductive rights.

Enter before July 22nd, 2022 to participate. While the contest offers no cash prizes, Threadless is donating 100% of their profits on participating designs to the National Network of Abortion Funds and to the Center for Reproductive Rights, so if you want your design to raise as many funds as possible for the cause, this is a very promising opportunity.

Threadless’s Flower Power design contest

New art is sure to blossom in Threadless‘s new Flower Power design competition. Here’s what they’re looking for…

Flowers are as beautiful as they are resilient, and in some cases, they can even be lethally poisonous. (Be careful, adventurers!) As we leave spring and enter summer, what better time to stop, smell the roses, and make art about it? For your next challenge, we want you to get to the root of this whole flower thing with your incredible art.

Will your new flower-themed design symbolize something profound like growth or fragility? Or will an entirely unique idea sprout from the deep crevices of your fertile mind? While you’re brainstorming, think about concepts such as pattern, color, ecosystems, death/rebirth, birds, bees, love, peace, and the million other places flower art can stem from. And as always, remember that this challenge isn’t just for some, it’s FLOR-AL.

Enter before July 8th, 2022 for your chance to win. First place wins $1250 cash and a $250 gift code. Second place earns $500 cash and a $250 gift code. Third place gets $250 cash and a $250 gift code. All designers printed will earn up to $20 per item sold (learn more about Threadless artist payments).

Threadless’s Travel design contest

Pack your bags for Threadless‘s new Travel design competition! Here’s what they’re looking for…

Traveling—to a faraway place or simply to the corner store down the block—can end up being an epic journey filled with unexpected delights. But where, oh where, will you go? For this challenge, we ask you to reimagine travel in your own unique way.

Will you go with the usual suspects like national parks or space? Or will it be another dimension entirely? Think about ways to turn the idea of travel upside down, whether figuratively or literally. Think about ways to travel, whether your own two feet, a time machine, a dirigible, or within YOUR OWN MIND. After all, if the multiverse has taught us anything it’s… well, that anything goes! Good luck on your quest.

Enter before May 27th, 2022 for your chance to win. First place wins $1250 cash and a $250 gift code. Second place earns $500 cash and a $250 gift code. Third place gets $250 cash and a $250 gift code. All designers printed will earn up to $20 per item sold (learn more about Threadless artist payments).

Threadless’s Weed design contest

Threadless indulges in a popular vice with their new Weed design competition, just in time for 4-20. Here’s what they’re looking for…

Mary Jane. Bud. Ganja. Weed. Reefer. The devil’s lettuce. Broccoli. Whatever you like to call it, marijuana is nature’s gift to humankind. Despite all the ways it’s been misunderstood and misrepresented historically, this glorious plant continues to play an integral role in many people’s lives, whether they use it as medicine or recreationally. It’s time to give pot its props!

For your next Design Challenge, we want you to use weed as inspiration for a totally dank new design. To start, maybe think about marijuana’s medicinal properties. It can help reduce anxiety, relieve pain, and even make dad jokes funny. Or, you can focus on the side effects of being faded AF such as the munchies or weed thoughts like, “What do you call a group of squids? A squad?” You could also recreate those trippy neon black light posters you’d see in a head shop, or draw a marijuana leaf smoking the world’s biggest blunt. Go wild with it!

Alternatively, if you would like to send a more socially aware message, consider centering your design around legalizing marijuana and releasing nonviolent drug offenders from prison. According to an analysis by the ACLU, “Nationwide, Black people are 3.6 times more likely than white people to be arrested for marijuana, despite similar usage rates.” You can assist the ACLU’s efforts to legalize marijuana, end racial profiling, and protect individual rights by donating to the organization through Threadless Causes. Click here to learn how to add a Cause and charity to your new design!

This contest does not currently list an end date, but opened to entries on April 1st, 2022. First place wins $1250 cash and a $250 gift code. Second place earns $500 cash and a $250 gift code. Third place gets $250 cash and a $250 gift code. All designers printed will earn up to $7 per item sold (learn more about Threadless artist payments).

Threadless’s Dark Academia design contest

Threadless indulges in the spooky sciences with their new Dark Academia design competition. Here’s what they’re looking for…

Dark Academia has emerged from the old, dusty libraries of prestigious learning institutions to become a growing internet subculture and aesthetic. As its name suggests, it romanticizes how private universities in the 19th century emphasized the liberal arts, particularly classical literature, art, and architecture. Dark Academics also have an affinity for the unusual, often exploring dark themes such as danger, mystery, crime, and secret societies. (Shhhhh!)

For your next Design Challenge, we want you to capture the aesthetic of Dark Academia. To get started, picture what life would have been like studying at a private university in the 19th century, before smartphones and self-driving cars. Imagine stacks of leather-bound books, hand-written messages penned in calligraphy, sepia-tone photos, and the occasional plaid scarf. If you want to lean into the “dark” aspect of Dark Academia, skulls, candles, and occult symbols always set a brooding tone. You could even base your design around an old piece of gothic poetry or literature, as long as it’s public domain.

Enter before April 1st, 2022 for your chance to win. One 1st Place winner will earn $1250 cash and a $250 Threadless gift code. One 2nd Place winner will receive $500 cash and a $250 Threadless gift code. One 3rd Place winner gets $250 cash and a $250 Threadlless gift code. All designers printed will earn up to $7 per item sold (learn more about Threadless artist payments).

Threadless’s Hot Topic Presents Kawaii design contest

Threadless has teamed up with Hot Topic to showcase the cutest art out there in the new Kawaii design competition. Here’s what they’re looking for…

Have you ever seen something so cute that you let out an involuntary squeal of excitement? That’s the kind of unbridled joy kawaii brings out in people. Originating in Japan, kawaii’s culture of cuteness has become a worldwide phenomenon.

Partnering with the brilliant folks at Hot Topic, we present to you your next challenge: Make an original kawaii design that’s achingly ADORABLE. Whether human or an anthropomorphic creature, traditional kawaii characters break the cuteness scale with their giant beady eyes, shy demeanor, and subtle facial expressions. You can incorporate similar elements, or go wild with your own unique interpretation of “cute.” Also, consider serving us a sugar rush of bright pastel colors to strike a cheerful tone.

Enter before February 25th, 2022 for your chance to win. First place earns a $500 Hot Topic gift card and a $250 Threadless gift card. Second place gets a $150 Hot Topic gift card. Third place also receives a $150 Hot Topic gift card. Designs in this challenge cannot be published for sale without approval, and if Hot Topic decides to use your art on officially-licensed products, you will be contacted with a merchandise agreement separate from the challenge.
