It’s Cool, But I Wouldn’t Wear It…

Every t-shirt designer knows the horror of designing some genuinely cool art, only to have the comments fill up with people who wouldn’t wear it. If your art isn’t suited to t-shirts, don’t let it go to waste! Check out Don’t Panic, an on-going poster design competition. They’ve got a variety of themes, so your work is bound to find the right place.

Winners of the Don’t Panic competition receive 20 copies of their winning poster and a share of the sales revenue from their work.

Red Bubble: In Praise of Shadows Competition

Red Bubble, an online gallery and creative community, has a t-shirt competition underway. The theme is “In Praise of Shadows.”

If, like me, you need some further clarification on that theme, here’s what Red Bubble has to say: “A celebration of the optical phenomenon of controlled darkness, endless possibilities.” Well, that certainly clears things up 🙂

Designers should also be aware that at the moment, Red Bubble only prints on white shirts. While this is an odd limitation for a contest with a shadowy theme, I think it can only improve the level of the designs being entered. Which is a good thing, since each designer is only allowed one entry.

Entries must be received by July 30th, 2007. The best design will net its owner a $250 voucher for Red Bubble (they sell wall art in addition to shirts, so this could be a very cool prize). Five runners-up will get $50 vouchers.

New for Tuesday at La Fraise

La Fraise has an interesting item on the front page today- hand-stitched pins with the La Fraise strawberry! I love seeing t-shirt companies branch out into other mediums, so I think it’s awesome that they’ve decided to do that (hopefully there will be more items like that in the future!).

Here’s an item I’d love to see from any of the t-shirt companies: a patchwork quilt, using elements of many submitted designs. Yes, it would be a difficult project to undertake, but it would be so cool.

New for Tuesday at Camiseteria

Camiseteria has a pretty great selection of new and reprinted tees up for sale this week. I’m partial to Hebben Wat Prett de Inverno (a cool enough image so that I don’t care about my inability to decipher the text), Ninja (because I just love the styling of the water, and the fact that the ninja is stranded in the pirate’s domain), and Baco sem saida (which I would probably buy, except for the urine).

There’s a total of five new or reprinted additions to the catalog, check out the site to learn more.

New Shirt Day!

Oh lovely Monday, how I love the new shirts you inevitably bring.

Threadless has some new tees, as usual, but shockingly I don’t really care for most of them. I’m sure they have great personalities, though. The only real winners for me this week are the Select shirt, Diodes Are a Girl’s Best Friend and the reprints, Pickles are Cucumbers Soaked in Evil and Octopus.

At any rate, since there aren’t any new additions to the other shirt sites that are worth mentioning, Threadless still maintains a huge lead over the competition when it comes to style, even on days when their choices don’t match my taste.

Uneetee Announces June Finalists

Uneetee has announced the top twenty finalists for their June design contest. Some of the designs, such as Dina Prasetyawan’s Bird Penny Bank, are really excellent. Others are… well, suprising choices to say the least. If you want to make sure the work you favor wins, make sure you cast a vote.

Also, as a reminder, there are 16 days left to enter Uneetee’s July contest.

InnerTee’s Happiness Mixing Contest

InnerTee, a website that allows users to mix a variety of icons into a unique shirt design, is currently having a contest to see who can create a shirt best expressing the theme “Happiness.”

The winner will be determined by which design acquires the most karma points (points awarded by visitors to designs they like). The winner gets a free shirt with their design. The competition ends on July 1st 2007.
