Pampling’s Cosmic River
Cosmic River by Gamma-Ray immediately grabs the eye with its bright color palette. The striped planet sits in space like a neon Jupiter, looming large from behind the mountain landscape. Those same colors are repeated in the vibrant river that worms its way between the peaks, but they’re used differently- while the planet’s stripes are solid with loose fades at the edges, the river is much more wild, with more fluid shapes that show motion and imply the glint of light on water. The rest of the piece sticks to a dark grey so it gives context and environment while fading into the background, but there’s one exception. A solitary pink highlight picks out the helmet of a silhouetted astronaut in the scene, a small moment that creates a sense of mystery and story. Very cool!
