Pampling’s Falling Fox

Falling Fox by TobiasFonseca is a gorgeous illustration. The fox’s pose is immediately intriguing, as he seems to be not just falling but also reaching weakly above himself. Is he grasping for the leaves that surround him, fading in and out of his fluffy tail? It feels like a metaphor for time passing, longing for the bright days of autumn as the winter chill starts to set in. The artwork creates a strong shape on the shirt, like the flicker of the flame on a match head (well-suited to the fox’s fire-y color palette). I frequently think that bottom-heavy designs can wear awkwardly on the human form, but this design escapes that because the lines of the art pull the eye upward along the curve of the tail. Good stuff!
