Threadless: White Castle and more new this week

White Castle by Yuri Shwedoff (YuriShwedoff) is my favorite shirt of the week. I can never resist a big, dramatic print, and this is definitely that. With its weathered space shuttle caked in dirt as though it has been revealed by an eroding mountain and its mysterious horse-riding figure in the foreground, this is a design that not only looks incredible, it also tells a compelling story (no wonder it won Threadless’s Dystopia challenge!). What’s especially nice is the way the artwork conveys a foggy atmosphere, something that makes this design still work well even with the dimmer tones of a triblend print.

Wisdom by Jackson Duarte (JackDuarte) won Threadless’s Tattoo challenge. The intricacy of this illustration is what pulls me in, and the eclectic use of color keeps my eye bouncing from one element to the next. The shades used and the tapering flourishes of the dragon make the creature seem to be constructed out of living fire that dances before your eyes. This is quality work, and the asymmetrical way it sits on the shirt is part of what helps the design to feel so dynamic. I only wish the print were a bit larger on the shirt!

Threadless prints new shirts every week, chosen from the designs submitted by and voted on by site members. Most winners earn $1 minimum per item sold (learn more about Threadless artist payments).
