Monsieur Poulet’s Partition et le Chien Cheval

Partition et le Chien Cheval by Amandine Meyer is wonderfully weird, a colorful tangle of elements that keeps the viewer guessing. I like the way that the art teases the viewer throughout the piece by transforming elements, such as the way the rear of a horse morphs into the front of a dog. Even the horse’s tail isn’t immune to the evolution, with part of it combining with a leg while the rest becomes a branch. Color choices further toy with our expectations by using similar shades in proximity to create moments of confusion, as seen in the way the woman’s leg turns red as it nears the horse’s red leg. The result is a unique, colorful jumble that feels more like a collage of fairy tale elements than a traditional illustration, but it’s so strange I find it hard to look away from. No matter where you look, there’s something interesting to discover.
