Camiseteria’s Hold Your Hand

Hold Your Hand by Fernando Degrossi brings Edward Scissorhands back to basics by having him carve a slogan into a tree instead of an artistic sculpture. What makes it work is that the text (I wanna hold your hand) gets at the essence of what Edward was trying to do with his art- it was all about trying to make people happy and forge bonds with a community that saw him as a monster. Even better, it specifically calls attention to his unique hands, and the way that even though they enable him to create these amazing pieces they also rob him of something that most people take for granted. It feels right that he’d make something in this vein. There’s also a strong sense of balance in this design, with the moon on the opposite end of the tree from Edward to lessen the shock of his pale skin, and the way green leaves scatter in harmony with the gleaming stars. Even the carefully pruned text looks realistically like foliage, with color variations and shadows that help it all to look alive.
