Pampling’s Monster Under the Bed

pampling monster under the bed

Monster Under the Bed by Ben Chen caught my eye with its smart use of color. Most of the action is in blacks, whites and grays, totally channeling the creepy feel of an old monster movie. The one spot of color is the bright yellow banana, which gives you the feeling that he went to sleep in a normal, colorful room and was then transported into a world of creepy movie nightmares. It’s a great choice because it draws the eye right to him, and because his difference makes him appear even¬†more vulnerable. The gorilla is well thought out too, so large that he seems barely able to squeeze his way out from under the bed. What really clinches his villainous feel, though, is the tumble of building blocks in front of him. This puts me immediately in mind of King Kong demolishing his way through the city. Smart choices all around!

Pampling has two options for winners of their contest. XPress winners earn 1 euro per shirt sold, with a minimum of 100 euros guaranteed. If the design sells well, designers may have the option of earning 500 euros to give Pampling the exclusive printing rights for one year. The second option is Classic winners, who earn 680 euros cash and 120 euros in t-shirts (or 720 euros cash) for the first 400 units and exclusive rights for 3 years. If the design is reprinted, the artist earns 850 euros cash and 150 euros in Pampling products (or 900 euros cash).
