Top Daily Tees of 2017

2017 has come to a close, so it’s time to reminisce about some of the daily t-shirt design industry’s biggest hits and most clever prints from the past year. As usual, there are some other sites that I’d like to include, but in order to put the list together I have to limit my focus to the sites that have current, up to date archives of their past print libraries. In no particular order, here’s a look at my personal top three prints from these daily tee sites this year…

TeeFury

The Devil’s Music by Steven Rhodes (November 5th, 2017)

Pitch-perfect retro styling makes this ode to dangerous music come alive.

Remember to Exorcise by DinoMike (October 14th, 2017)

A seriously crazed cartoony Beetlejuice portrait makes this pun a winner.

Blade Fun-Run by Captain Ribman (March 5th, 2017)

So many references that even the most ardent fan will be impressed.

Shirt.Woot

That’s What I Do by Manospd (September 5th, 2017)

A literary twist turned one of Game of Thrones’s most popular quotes into even more of a nerd motto.

Please Bear With Me by DinoMike (August 1st, 2017)

Simple and cute, this bear’s slightly asymmetrical features only add to his charms.

Hot Dog Summer by Vo Maria (July 26th, 2017)

This hot dog baking in the sun perfectly captures the chilled out feeling of a lazy summer day.

RIPT Apparel

Space Invader Anatomy by alex.pawlicki (February 15th, 2017)

Who could have guessed what horrors lurked below that pixel exterior?

Old Hyrule by Fallavollita (August 15th, 2017)

These clean, thick lines carve out a scene that feels full of adventure and possibility.

Edgar Allen Crow by ScottNeilsonConcepts (August 25th, 2017)

Quoth the raven, “Winter is Coming!”

Top Daily Tees of 2016

2016 has come to a close, so it’s time to reminisce about some of the daily t-shirt design industry’s biggest hits and most clever prints from the past year. As usual, there are some other sites that I’d like to include, but in order to put the list together I have to limit my focus to the sites that have current, up to date archives of their past print libraries. In no particular order, here’s a look at my personal top three prints from these daily tee sites this year…

TeeFury

Jellyspace by Angoes25 (September 6th, 2016)

A jellyfish becomes akin to an alien lifeform in this colorful space epic.

Reading Lovecraft by queenmob (October 15th, 2016)

Reading Rainbow transforms into a creepy tentacle in this ode to a master of horror stories.

She-Read by wytrab8 (June 9th, 2016)

A masterful parody that injects an action cartoon favorite with some brains and self-actualizing spirit.

Shirt.Woot

Good Luck Cat by Skylar Hogan (August 3rd, 2016)

I love the roughness of the illustration and the bored malevolence of the black cat’s expression.

Cosmic Bear by Spiritgreen (July 9th, 2016)

Beautiful coloring makes this design a standout, a lovely mix of outer space and a forest nature scene.

I Dream of Freeze-Dried Ice Cream by Rasabi (May 21st, 2016)

A fun ode to the childhood dream that most of us never quite managed to experience, all done up in a style reminiscent of the real thing.

RIPT Apparel

Rebellion by alex.pawlicki (December 19th, 2016)

Perfectly mimics the style of Metropolis, starring with the standout robot from the new Star Wars.

Optimus Trans by manospd (June 29th, 2016)

I love the seriousness and solidness of this business-minded Transformers parody.

Currently available at TeePublic.

Triple Beagle Portrait by AlbertoArni (June 26th, 2016)

A loving tribute to all Snoopys, from the early comic to his modern incarnation and all his most fun moments in between (especially those pilot goggles!).

Currently available at TeePublic.

Top Daily Tees of 2015

As 2015 comes to a close, it’s time to do Compete-tee-tion’s annual look back at the year’s best daily tee designs! While there are several more sites that I’d love to include, not all daily tee sites have up-to-date, chronological archives of their past designs and thus could not be listed this year. But thankfully, there’s a lot of good work to enjoy on the sites with active archives! Here’s a look at my top three picks from each:

TeeFury

teefury may 25th 1977

May 25th, 1977 by JPCOOVERT (October 8th, 2015)

With simple, bold shapes, this design is able to express both the year Star Wars premiered and show some of the iconic space ships that helped make it famous.

teefury shadows of suspense

Shadows of Suspense by MMARCIN (June 4th, 2015)

This portrait of Alfred Hitchcock also contains references to some of his most iconic movies! Fittingly, those clues are hidden in the shadows…

teefury asgardening

Asgardening by MATTKAUFENBERG (September 20th, 2015)

I love the way the playful, child-like art style contrasts with Thor’s immense power and very serious responsibilities.

Shirt.Woot

shirt.woot i promised i'd find you

I Promised I’d Find You by patrickspens (August 8th, 2015)

There’s so much story in this shirt design- the army of evil robots, the child in danger, the heroic good robot and his risky rescue plan, and even hints of a strange, polluted dystopia tucked away in the background.

shirt.woot believe in yourself

Believe in Yourself by Bootsboots (August 6th, 2015)

Fun typography and the perfectly self-assured look on Nessie’s face make this design a winner.

shirt.woot live slow never die

Live Slow Never Die by maloandthewhale (April 21st, 2015)

Remember that game you played as a kid? This sloth-y update will get the nostalgia flowing, and the amount of detail makes it impressive from an artistic standpoint as well.

RIPT Apparel

ript smugglers

Smugglers by manospd (August 27th, 2015)

Classic sports team style is used to great effect in this Firefly tee. Who wouldn’t want to join the team?

Currently available at TeePublic.

ript pawns go first

Pawns Go First by artbroken (July 7th, 2015)

Finally, a shirt you can wear whether you think Magneto Was Right or that you wanna learn from Charles Xavier.

Currently available at RedBubble.

ript game over

Game Over by DJKopet (December 5th, 2015)

One of the most interesting new fake sweater shirts this year, this piece is a veritable museum and shrine to the awesomeness of pixel art!

Currently available at TeePublic.

Top Daily Tees of 2014

As one year ends and another begins, it’s a great time to look back on some of the best t-shirt designs seen on daily tee sites in 2014. While I would have liked to include a few more sites, some of my favorites (The Yetee, Qwertee, and Shirtpunch) do not currently have up to date, chronological archives of their past designs. But luckily other sites do, so here’s a look at my top 3 for each:

TeeFury

teefury the flowers of wonderland

The Flowers of Wonderland by Gemma Roman (August 1st, 2014)

It’s rare to see a text design that manages to be so readable and exquisitely illustrated at the same time.

teefury clash of the old gods

Clash of the Old Gods by Fuacka (May 10th, 2014)

Perfectly captures both the hugeness of Cthulhu and the bravery of the warrior facing him.

teefury the warm little tauntaun

The Warm Little Tauntaun by joebot (February 11th, 2014)

Does a great job of mimicking the soft Golden Book feel of the originals, especially in the textures used.

Shirt.Woot

shirt.woot mobius kart

Mobius Kart by spiritgreen (June 8th, 2014)

A devastatingly difficult illustration that tackles both tough perspective and harsh color restraints without breaking a sweat.

shirt.woot endless starry night

Endless Starry Night by spiritgreen (July 18th, 2014)

Every Discworld fan’s dream looks even more like a masterpiece through the lens of van Gogh’s style.

shirt.woot viva la siesta

Viva la Siesta by walmazan (May 12th, 2014)

Because sometimes napping is the best form of rebellion.

Ript Apparel

ript apparel shredder's gym

Shredder’s Gym by BiggStankDogg (June 2nd, 2014)

A solid concept packed with smart supporting details, even more impressive for being only one color.

Currently available at RedBubble.

ript apparel rainbow bite

Rainbow Bite by Matty Rogers (September 27th, 2014)

There’s something really perfect about seeing the bright, sunny world of Rainbow Brite upended by a zombie uprising.

Currently available at Redbubble.

ript apparel it's gr-r-ray

It’s Gr-r-ray! by pinteezy (July 29th, 2014)

I enjoy how complete this parody is, tying in the tiger mascot and his slogan for a one-two punch of comedy.

Currently available at Redbubble.

RIPT Apparel’s Artist payout update and more

ript apparel changes 2014

RIPT Apparel announced a couple of changes recently that artists will be excited to hear about! Here’s a quick summary:

– Instead of getting a flat $1 per item sold, artists will now earn a 10% commission on items sold (so you’d still get $1 minimum on shirts sold, but would get $4 if a $40 hoodie was sold)

– Art submission turn around time has improved, and artists will now know within 10 business days if their art will print.

– Artists can get 20% off if they make a wholesale order for extra copies of their design.

– RIPT’s affiliate program means that artists can earn a 5% commission on all sales made through their affiliate link.

Read the RIPT Apparel blog for all the details!
