RedBubble’s Borderlands Fan Art competition winners

Redbubble’s Borderlands Fan Art competition winners have been announced, and for my money the first place winner 1920s Tattoo Style Borderlands 3 Squad by KittyMuffinzz is the best of the bunch. I love this approach to fan art, where the artist reinterprets familiar faces in a style that is new, but compliments the themes of the original property. Traditional tattoo art feels like a natural fit for the rough-and-tumble, high voltage action adventure of Borderlands. The illustrations are well made, capturing the character’s likeness and creating a kind of cool, alternate world for them to exist in. It’s solid work, functioning nicely both as a grouping of four characters and as four separate designs.

RedBubble’s Borderlands fan art competition

In honor of the September 13th launch of Borderlands 3, RedBubble is launching a very enticing Borderlands Fan Art competition. Here’s what they’re looking for…

  • We want to see original, unique fan art so feel free to experiment with different art styles
  • Consider more obscure characters and references that only super fans would recognize
  • Avoid unoriginal content like logos on their own, or designs that are similar to existing merchandise
  • Avoid submitting works that are vulgar, hyper violent, political, or otherwise inappropriate (there’s more on this in the guidelines)
  • Create designs that you’d love to have or wear!

Enter before October 13th, 2019 for your chance to win. To enter, you must be a member of the RedBubble Partner Program. Upload your work with the tags “Borderlands”, “Borderlandsfanart” and “BorderlandsxRB.” Winners will be chosen by a panel from Gearbox Software and RedBubble. RedBubble’s Billions contest winners

RedBubble’s Billions contest winners have been announced, with winning selections made by a panel of judges from Showtime and RedBubble. All three are well-crafted, with 1st place incorporating names of many major characters and 2nd place putting a typographic spin on one of the series’s catchphrases. But while first and second adhere so closely to already existing official Billions marketing material, 3rd place caught my eye with how much it stands out and offers something new. In a style common to pop culture t-shirts (but not seen previously in Showtime’s marketing), it uses a portrait of Billions’s most iconic character, Bobby Axelrod, to hold text in a variety of fonts that calls out themes and phrases from the TV show. To me, this is how officially sanctioned fan art is best used- to bring something new and different to a property that the marketing department couldn’t or wouldn’t have tackled.

Redbubble’s Billions design contest

RedBubble has been assembling an impressive collection of Fan Art officially licensed design opportunities with properties like Adventure Time and Steven Universe, but with the new Billions design competition they’re venturing into something quite interesting and different than what’s come before, a serious drama. Here’s what they’re looking for…

All you have to do is create original, fun, and creative works directly related to the series. A portrait? A typographical quote? A pattern? It’s up to you. There are 4 great seasons of vengeance-filled content to pull from. New episodes air Sundays 9/8c on SHOWTIME.

Enter before May 21st, 2019 for your chance to win. To enter, you must be a member of the RedBubble Partner Program.
