Shirt.Woot’s Words derby voting highlights

Shirt.Woot focused on innovative typography this week for their Words derby. While past typography derbies have strictly limited the amount of supporting graphics, this contest had a looser approach that gave more leeway to illustration. That means a more diverse set of designs in the top ranks, and a lot of variation in percentage of words to graphics across the board. Here’s a look at two current voting underdogs that I think could use some more attention…

Big Yikes by Wheels03 transforms its letters into banners, and does it in a way that reflects the message of the text.

I Love Nature by wirdou makes each letter out of something from the natural world, either plant or animal. Each drawing is charming and exudes personality.

This derby continues through Thursday at noon. The top three designs (determined by votes and editor input) will each earn $1000 cash and $2 per item sold. Additionally, other designs will be selected and sold for $2 per item each. Both top vote-getters and selected designs will be sold in a future Plus sale.

Shirt.Woot’s Editor’s Choice: Halloween collection

In October, all the best shirts are spooky shirts, and that definitely applies to Shirt.Woot’s Editor’s Choice: Halloween plus sale. So if you like ghosts, monsters, skeletons, or other creepy creatures, you are very much in luck with these tees. Here’s what caught my eye…

Best of the Bunch: The Monsters by Steven Lefcourt channels vintage horror poster style with charm and accuracy.

Nicest Surprise: Haunted Pixels by Jrberger first impressed me in voting with its 8-bit portraits of classic horror villains.

Shirt(s) I Am Most Biased About: My design Slothoween is for when you’d rather nap than trick or treat, while Trick or Treat Athletic offers a pair of designs that have you covered whether you’re in a trick or a treat sort of mood.

Shirt.Woot’s Whatever derby voting highlights

Shirt.Woot‘s Whatever derby was all about apathy and laziness, always popular subjects for shirt designs. Text designs and animals sleeping did especially well in voting. Here’s a look at two current voting underdogs that I think could use some more attention…

A Life Well Spent by yazmoq impressed me with its attention to detail- each window represents a new season, right down to the wildlife.

X-Meh by Wheels03 makes a simple shrug even more dramatic with Wolverine’s trademark adamantium claws.

This derby continues through Thursday at noon. The top three designs (determined by votes and editor input) will each earn $1000 cash and $2 per item sold. Additionally, other designs will be selected and sold for $2 per item each. Both top vote-getters and selected designs will be sold in a future Plus sale.

Shirt.Woot’s Editor’s Choice: Heroes and Villains

Shirt.Woot’s Editors Choice: Heroes and Villains plus sale featured heroic tees with a villainous twist, whether from a comic book superhero or something more mundane. But even if you’ve never cracked open a comic, there are heroes to fit every taste from teachers and artists to coffee. Here’s what caught my eye…

Best of the Bunch: No One Too Small by patrickspens features a robot saving the day, and I love the exaggerated length of his robo-legs and how well it emphasizes the vertical canvas of the shirt.

Nicest Surprise: Hero We Deserve by mekazoo won me over in voting with its battle against the dastardly Monday.

Shirt(s) I Am Most Biased About: My design Night Owl Reality champions staying up too late reading comics while Sarcasm Hero admits a weakness to certain types of humor.

This derby continues through Thursday at noon. The top three designs (determined by votes and editor input) will each earn $1000 cash and $2 per item sold. Additionally, other designs will be selected and sold for $2 per item each. Both top vote-getters and selected designs will be sold in a future Plus sale.

October brings with it the start of the shirt world’s spookiest season, and Shirt.Woot is ready for it with their Halloween derby this week. An annual tradition, this contest always impresses with how many fresh takes on the holiday artists are able to create. Here’s a look at two current voting underdogs that I think could use some more attention…

Haunted Pixels by jrberger gives horror icons an 8-bit makeover, like a video game full of only big boss villains.
