Shirt.Woot’s Mischievous Shirts derby voting highlights

Shirt.Woot‘s Mischievous Shirts derby gave artists the opportunity to be a bit naughty, so these designs deliver both snarky puns and slogans as well as animals misbehaving in all sorts of novel ways (plus a smattering of other stuff). Here’s a look at two current voting underdogs that I think could use some more attention…

Let’s Play D&D by jimiyo balances the evil menace of a realistically drawn devil with innocent, playful lettering.

Tastes Like Chicken by thatrobert starts off with a great chicken illustration (I especially dig the colors!) and adds humor with an unexpected knife. I’m not sure it even needs the slogan, although it is nice the way the text placement draws attention to the weapon.

This derby continues through Thursday at noon. The top three designs (determined by votes and editor input) will each earn $1000 cash and $2 per item sold. Additionally, other designs will be selected and sold for $2 per item each. Both top vote-getters and selected designs will be sold in a future Plus sale.

A new take on a clasSic series. Read beTween the letters and unscrAmble the anagRam to reveal this Week’s derby theme. Your only clue: MAy the 4th is almost heRe! Quite an elaborate ruSe this is!

No politics, no cream tees, no cats! I will not be afraid to use the iron DQ glove if you don’t get the theme right…so make sure you get it right.

This derby begins Thursday at noon and continues through next Thursday at noon. The top three designs (determined by votes and editor input) will each earn $1000 and $2 per item sold after the first day of sales. Shirt.Woot’s Animal Mashup Challenge derby voting highlights

Shirt.Woot‘s Animal Mashup Challenge derby encouraged artists to incorporate animals into their favorite movies, TV shows, and books, and the results have been both funny and artistic. As you’d expect for Woot, there are definitely a lot of cats in the mix (especially Goose from Captain Marvel), but other animals like dogs, insects, and sea creatures are also represented. Here’s a look at two current voting underdogs that I think could use some more attention…

Poo-tee-weet by jimiyo keeps things literary with a Vonnegut reference, and the soft, textural look of the bird’s feathers makes you want to reach out and touch it.

I’ll Be Bacon by shadyjibes delivers a pun that makes this pig seem to be staring his own mortality in the face with Terminator-like stoicism.

This derby continues through Thursday at noon. The top three designs (determined by votes and editor input) will each earn $1000 cash and $2 per item sold. Additionally, other designs will be selected and sold for $2 per item each. Both top vote-getters and selected designs will be sold in a future Plus sale.

Shirt.Woot’s Editor’s Choice: Do512’s Big Contest collection

Shirt.Woot had an off-site contest for Austin-based Do512, and while the contest’s big winners were a bit of a mixed bag in terms of quality and popular appeal, there’s a lot of fun to be had with their selection of honorable mentions in the Editor’s Choice: Do512’s Big Contest plus sale. Here’s what caught my eye…

Best of the Bunch: PegaCentauRock by Ben Harman is well-drawn and super wearable, showing a winged centaur wailing away on an electric guitar.

Nicest Surprise: The Big Armadillo by SamAndErikas has a playful vectored style and expertly arranges elements from the Austin region into a plant-filled collage softened by just a touch of light texturing.

This promotion will only last until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday. So if there’s something you like, grab it fast!

Shirt.Woot Derby #701: Mischievous Shirts

Shirt.Woot is teasing a new derby theme…

Starting Thursday at noon: Derby #701: Mischievous Shirts

Buehler, pets, monkeys, children, old people! The theme this week is mischief – the previous are the most common offenders…

Tell your mischievous story in any form you prefer, with any characters you like. Words are allowed, politics are not. Designs can and should be funny and light-hearted – no serious pranks. And no cream tees!

This derby begins Thursday at noon and continues through next Thursday at noon. The top three designs (determined by votes and editor input) will each earn $1000 and $2 per item sold after the first day of sales. Those winners will be sold on Friday (1st), Saturday (2nd), and Sunday (3rd). Additionally, other designs may be selected for a Plus sale on the following Monday, with each selected design earning $2 per item sold.

Shirt.Woot’s Derby Editor’s Choice: Classics Reimagined collection

Some of Shirt.Woot’s most popular prints got a facelift in the Derby Editor’s Choice: Classics Reimagined plus sale. Since the subject matter of the original pieces was already a hit with customers, the contest gave artists the opportunity to show the idea (or a similar one) in a fresh, new way. Here’s what caught my eye…

Best of the Bunch: UnNinja: Birthday by dooomcat keeps things simple with a ninja trio and a candle mishap. I love the detailed and very comic expressions on each of the ninjas’ faces.

Nicest Surprise: Just Making It Up by dinomike works for me in part because the cat is drawn in a way that makes it seem like a mishap is just around the corner, and that clumsiness suits the slogan perfectly.

This promotion will only last until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. So if there’s something you like, grab it fast!

Shirt.Woot’s T-List 2018 – The People’s Choice derby voting highlights

Shirt.Woot made an excellent choice in playing out the T-List 2018 – The People’s Choice derby differently than it had been done in the past, limiting the entries to just the best sellers from the past year (instead of all shirts printed in the year, as the contest previously had). This curating lets voters have a more positive experience, keeping quality high and making the number of entries much more manageable. With so many excellent pieces, narrowing things down was difficult but here are the two current voting underdogs that I think need more attention…

Permanently Pooped-Out Pigeon by fablefire is a brilliant addition to the Early Bird/Night Owl divide, a mascot that finally addresses people who are tired all the time, day or night!

Ass in Gear by rasabi might be the most iconic design of the past year, delivering some classic dad joke humor in a clean, understated style.

This derby continues through Thursday at noon. The People’s Choice winner will be featured alongside the other T-List winners.
