Shirt.Woot’s Animal Warfare derby voting highlights

Shirt.Woot had creatures of all shapes and sizes sizing each other up in the Animal Warfare derby. Most designs took a cartooned approach, but more illustrative and vectored approaches are represented as well. Here’s a look at two current voting underdogs that I think could use some more attention…

Swan vs. Swan: The Punctuation War by thatrobert is a cool way of using type, and the question marks make perfect swan necks.

dragonyarn by ApeLad is an incredibly effective drawing that delivers both an action scene and lots of detail. I love how well the yarn is represented in the soft, nubby teeth and fiber effect in the string.

This derby continues through Thursday at noon. The top three vote-getters will each earn $1000 cash and $2 per item sold. Additionally, other designs will be selected and sold for $2 per item each. Both top vote-getters and selected designs will be sold in a future Plus sale.

Shirt.Woot’s Derby Editor’s Choice: Wordless Humor collection

Shirt.Woot kept their punchlines strictly visual in the Derby Editor’s Choice: Wordless Humor plus sale. Puns, pop culture and silly situations packed the collection. Here’s what caught my eye…

Best of the Bunch: The Bee’s Knees by Jennyrex is a gorgeous piece of cartooning, and a favorite of mine since voting.

Nicest Surprise: Ride Along 2 by Chachachino was another voting favorite, impressing with its character work and sense of motion.

Shirt I Am Most Biased About: My design Hardboiled Detective is all about a mystery eggvestigation.

This promotion will only last until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. So if there’s something you like, grab it fast!

Shirt.Woot’s Nearly NSFW derby voting highlights

Shirt.Woot asked artists to veer close to the edge of good taste and respectability with their Nearly NSFW derby. Language, sexual themes and rude gestures were especially popular topics. Here’s a look at two current voting underdogs that I think could use some more attention…

Elmer? Ewwww! by EwingKlipspringer keeps things simple with a glue gag that will make you see crafting in a new light. The glue’s shocked expression is what really sells this one.

Bad Fruit by BlairJCampbell has a great sense of fun about it, and I love the reveal of the pile of fruit skins in the background. My only criticism is that the unpeeled banana really ought to be much lighter than bright yellow to make it read more clearly as unpeeled.

This derby continues through Thursday at noon. The top three vote-getters will each earn $1000 cash and $2 per item sold. Additionally, other designs will be selected and sold for $2 per item each. Both top vote-getters and selected designs will be sold in a future Plus sale.

Shirt.Woot Derby #671: Animal Warfare

Shirt.Woot is tired of petty human dramas, their latest derby theme is…

Starting Thursday at noon: Derby #671: Animal Warfare

Calling all creature commandos: Operation Derby #671: Animal Warfare is about to get underway. Entries should feature animals of all stripes (or scales or spots or whatever) at war with each other, be it paw-on-claw combat, or something a little more psychological. We’re going to allow cats in this derby, but let’s all try a little harder than the old, tired tropes like cats vs. dogs or mice tropes. Or guerrilla/gorilla warfare. We can do better. The only rules: no politics or cream tees.

This derby begins Thursday at noon and continues through next Thursday at noon. The top three vote-getters will each earn $1000 and $2 per item sold after the first day of sales. Those winners will be sold on Friday (1st), Saturday (2nd), and Sunday (3rd). Additionally, other designs may be selected for a Plus sale on the following Monday, with each selected design earning $2 per item sold.

Shirt.Woot’s Derby Editor’s Choice: Life – Anime Style collection

Shirt.Woot paid homage to a popular cartoon look with their Derby Editor’s Choice: Life – Anime Style plus sale. And if you’ve been hoping to see a pop culture classic turned into anime, an artistic anime statement, or even a cool kanji text treatment, you’re definitely in luck with this group of tees. Here’s what caught my eye…

Best of the Bunch: University of Anime by Walmazan is a fun tee for self-styled anime experts, and looks great on pink.

Nicest Surprise: Stargazing by Ste7enl uses the unique look of anime eyes as a framing device for a design about staring into the stars.

This promotion will only last until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. So if there’s something you like, grab it fast!

Shirt.Woot’s Wordless Humor derby voting highlights

Visual punchlines packed the ranks for Shirt.Woot‘s Wordless Humor derby. Pop culture and food were especially popular themes. But if you like a joke that speaks for itself, there’s a lot to choose from in a variety of styles and sensibilities. Here’s a look at two current voting underdogs that I’d like to see get some more attention…

Ride Along 2 by chachachino makes biker cops a cuddly duo, with rounded forms and soft colors that make both seem extra-snuggly. My favorite detail is the way you can feel the bike’s speed in the way the cop’s mustache is pulled by the wind.

The Bee’s Knees by Jenny Rex fully commits to its conceptual absurdity, giving this pleasant, friendly-looking bee an especially beefy pair of legs.

This derby continues through Thursday at noon. The top three vote-getters will each earn $1000 cash and $2 per item sold. Additionally, other designs will be selected and sold for $2 per item each. Both top vote-getters and selected designs will be sold in a future Plus sale.
